Email Re: Field trip to the HOGG MINE - April 5, 2008 Troup County, Lagrange, Georgia

It was another great dig at the Hogg Mine! I had two 12 year old girls and my wife along this time,
my daughter and her friend, and they dug in the rain and mud like champs! Not a word of
complaining! Becky found a nice inch long aquamarine crystal, and Yurika found some beautiful
quartz pieces. I was concentrating on finding beryl and chose to break up quartz pieces to find it.
It wasn’t long before my efforts were rewarded. I broke a large chunk of quartz and found myself
looking at a 3 inch long beryl crystal, with a 2 inch diameter. I can’t tell you how satisfying that
find was. I was very pleased to see all the visitors, and celebrated with them as some fantastic
finds were made. Thanks again for a great field trip!
