HOGG MINE - May 17, 2008 Troup County, Lagrange, Georgia
Twenty-eight people joined Marcy and I for the dig at the Hogg Mine held on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The weather was about perfect and heavy rains the week before had exposed a good deal of top quality rose quartz and beryl. It did warm up later in the day, at least in the direct sun. I took my own suggestion from a previous report and brought umbrellas. I was right - makes a world of difference on a sunny day. I took Don's (www.first-frontier-inc.com) suggestion and got a couple of umbrella blinds used in hunting, cut and drilled a couple of pieces of PVC pipe for stands and used them for shade where I wanted it. The umbrella blinds tilt and work great for the purpose.
I really did not get too many pictures on this trip as I was quite busy digging myself. But here are a few I did get, as well as some pictures of our finds once we got home.
The next trip is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2008 with Bill Mitcham as trip leader. For those who don't know him, Bill is a great guy and is especially helpful to newcomers. For details and directions see Rodney's field trip page atwww.dixieeuhedrals.com.
